CHAIRMAN Glen Bartlett says there are a number of positives to draw from Melbourne’s 2015 season.

Speaking at the Keith ‘Bluey’ Truscott Memorial dinner, Bartlett said that while there have been disappointing moments, these are relative to the strides that have been taken forward this year.

“For all of you who have stuck with us, yes there have been some frustrating moments but that is because we are clearly on the right path and we can see how far we’ve come in terms of our development on and off the field,” he said.

“We’ve always said it will be a bumpy road, not a straight line to success.”

Reflecting on highlights from the year, such as the victory over Richmond on Anzac Day eve and Melbourne’s first win at Simonds Stadium since 2005, Bartlett believes that supporters have been given a glimpse of “a window into the future”.

“So much is being done right within the club, at the coaching level, at the playing level, on and off the field, that the results and the consistency will come,” he said.

“[We’ve finished] the season not only with seven wins, but a number of wins against strong teams and a number of games we’ve been in right to the end. [We’ve also had] a NAB AFL Rising Star, and also finished 13th on the ladder.”

Acknowledging that with improvement comes more scrutiny and expectation, Bartlett said that the club would not be distracted by external noise and will continue to focus on “what we’re doing right and where we’re heading in 2016 and beyond”.

“We’ll learn and we’ll get better this year and the year after,” he said.
