COACH Paul Roos says it was important the Melbourne players and coaches made a stand and showed their support in the ‘Walk against family violence’ at Federation Square on Monday.

Roos, who spoke at the gathering, said it was an issue that everyone in the community needed to address.
“Like a lot of us who grow up in a safe family, we don’t have an idea or an understanding of how significant the problem is. But when you delve a bit deeper and you pick up the Herald Sun and read on the front page [the issue of domestic violence], it’s a significant problem,” he said.
“We’re really just here as a footy club to make a stand against it. Just having the players along [at the walk is important], but we’ve got to educate everyone as well and the AFL is doing a much better job of educating players.
“Bringing them (the players) along to an event like this [is important], because sometimes you’re in a bit of a bubble at a footy club and you don’t get exposed too much outside a football club.
“I think it’s important for them to be here [at the walk] and they were really keen to do so.”
