ON FRIDAY, Foundation Legend Peter McGrath made good on his pledge.
He recently said at the club’s Foundation Heroes event that he would donate $5000 – if the club defeated Collingwood on Queen’s Birthday.
As Melbourne defeated the Pies by four points, McGrath came through with the goods on Friday, when he presented a cheque to Jack Watts after training.
McGrath is a long-time Melbourne fanatic.
He watched the club’s success throughout the 1950s and early 1960s, and was there on the first night in Kensington when Jimmy Stynes began the movement.
McGrath has been a consistent donator ever since, attending most of the Foundation events along the way. He was recently elevated to Foundation Legend status for his efforts.
His daughters, Jess and Anna are also Foundation Heroes.
McGrath also sponsored player/coach performance manager Brendan McCartney in 2016, as a Coaches Sponsor, and is doing so again in 2017.
