CASEY Scorpions have lost just their second match of the season after going down to Collingwood by 40 points.

Collingwood 8.11 (59) defeated Casey 2.7 (19) in heavy conditions at Casey Fields on Saturday.

The Scorpions entered the match on top of the ladder, having won their past five in a row. Their only other loss for the season was in round three against Williamstown at Casey Fields.

Although Casey was still within reach at three quarter-time – it trailed by 21 points – Collingwood upped the ante in the final term, booting four goals to one, to run out comfortable winners.

Up until three quarter-time, the Scorpions had kicked just 1.5.

That goal came via midfielder Ben Newton late in the first quarter.

Casey’s only other major came via Scorpions-listed forward Tim Smith in the final term.

Utility Matt Jones, in his second match back, after being sidelined for six matches with a back injury, had a team-high 32 disposals.

Ball-winner Viv Michie continued his fine form in the VFL, notching up 27 touches.

Second-year Melbourne player Alex Neal-Bullen had 22 possessions.

Newton finished with 19 disposals and former co-captain Jack Grimes had 18.

Casey heads to Eureka Stadium to take on North Ballarat next Saturday at 2pm.
