WEST Coast midfielder Andrew Gaff says he is very close to re-signing with the Eagles.
Gaff's contract has been a priority for West Coast this year after he won last year's best and fairest and made the All Australian side for the first time.
The 24-year-old Victorian has consistently stated this season that he was keen to stay at West Coast for the long term.
He told 6PR on Wednesday night that he expected to ink a new deal soon.
"It's getting pretty close," Gaff said.
"I think we're just in the process of fixing up a few things.
"I'm loving it over here and looking forward to continuing. The club has been great ever since I've moved over from Melbourne.
"I've made some new friends over here. The club is in a very good position going forward with a lot of young talent but also (with) older guys playing well. It'll sort itself out in the next week or two I think."
Gaff has become one of the most consistent performers in the Eagles’ side over recent seasons.
He holds the club record for consecutive games at West Coast with 113. He had the longest active streak of any player in the AFL until that was broken in round 10 when he missed a game due to a heavy concussion suffered against Port Adelaide.
Gaff had also collected 30-plus disposals in seven of the first eight games this year before he was knocked out by the Power’s Tom Jonas.
The No.4 draft pick in 2010 has collected 30-plus touches in just two of the six games since he returned and admitted the concussion had affected his recent form.
"I just felt perhaps a little bit more rushed than I did at times," Gaff said.
"I think when you come back from something like that, you feel like you're under a bit more pressure whenever you have the ball and you're pretty quick to bomb it away or handball it to someone else.
"It's just that composure that probably went away for a couple of weeks. It's something that for some guys it takes one week, some guys a couple of weeks and others it takes longer than that.
"It was something that was frustrating for a couple of weeks but I feel like I've got over that and I'm starting to play some decent football."
The Eagles face Melbourne at Domain Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Gaff said the midfield battle would be critical, especially given the strong form of Demons ruckman Max Gawn.
