Second quarter
Melbourne showed some better form in the second term, particularly in the mid and latter parts.

At one point, the Dees got back to within three goals, when Jeremy Howe and Col Garland booted consecutive majors. In fact, the Dees could have pegged the margin back further, had it not followed up with  two behinds from Brad Green and Rohan Bail.

The Kangas answered with three in succession and the margin was back out to six goals. But when Stef Martin and Nathan Jones kicked back to back goals late in the term, the margin was reduced to 25 points at half-time.
