This weekend: Adelaide v Central District, Elimination Final - Saturday September 3, 12.10pm, Adelaide Oval

Midfielder Cam Ellis-Yolmen collected 29 disposals, seven clearances, 10 tackles and a goal as he pushed to keep his spot for the senior side's first final against North Melbourne next Saturday.

Ellis-Yolmen played his second AFL game of the year in the loss to West Coast in the final round after Rory Sloane missed through suspension.

A role in defence saw former skipper Nathan van Berlo (18 disposals and a goal) combine with Andy Otten (20 disposals) in Adelaide's 72-point win.

Wayne Milera finished with 24 disposals and two goals, including a sublime set shot while squeezed up against the boundary.

Former Carlton forward Troy Menzel also showed his wares, with 21 disposals, six tackles and three goals.

Collingwood

State league affiliate: Collingwood (VFL)
This weekend: Collingwood v Williamstown, Second Qualifying Final - Saturday September 3, 2pm, Ikon Park

A serious-looking ankle injury to defender Jack Frost put a dampener on Collingwood's 36-point win over Williamstown at Ikon Park.

Frost injured his ankle in the second quarter of the clash, limping to the rooms at half-time on crutches as the Magpies advanced to the VFL preliminary final.

The Magpies will send Frost, who is out of contract at the end of the year, for scans to assess the damage.

A Magpies spokesman told AFL.com.au the 24-year-old's injury would be evaluated on Monday when he goes into the club for a medical.

Midfielder Brent Macaffer, who will retire at the end of the season, was named as Collingwood's best player, while ruckman Jarrod Witts was equally instrumental in the victory.

Marley Williams and exciting young forward Ben Crocker nailed two goals for the victors.

Essendon

State league affiliate: Essendon (VFL)
This weekend: Geelong v Essendon, First Elimination Final - Saturday September 3, 2.40pm, North Port Oval

Aaron Francis had Essendon fans excited after a long-range goal in the last quarter helped the Bombers overrun Geelong and win by 22 points.

Essendon trailed by 16 points at the last break before booting nine final-term goals.

Francis' effort was particularly special as he had produced a thrilling chasedown tackle moments before his bomb went through.

He played up forward, rather than in the backline as he usually does, and competed hard all day.

His South Australian teammate Mason Redman livened up in the second half, with strong contested work in the air and on the ground, as well as excellent defensive pressure.

Top-up James Polkinghorne was critical as an inside midfielder in the first half before he went forward and booted four goals in the second half. He collected 28 disposals.

Out-of-contract pair Nick Kommer and Will Hams also played well. Essendon faces Footscray in a VFL semi-final next week.

Fremantle

State league affiliate: Peel Thunder (WAFL)
This weekend: Peel Thunder v East Perth, Elimination Final - Sunday September 4, 3.10pm, Bendigo Bank Stadium

Midfielder Matt de Boer guided Peel to its first ever WAFL finals victory, collecting 31 disposals, 10 tackles, nine clearances and a goal in the 49-point win.

The 26-year-old willed himself to impact every contest and worked back to help the defence, and was ably supported by ball-winners Connor Blakely (25 touches) and Darcy Tucker (22 touches).

Ruckman Zac Clarke (18 touches, nine marks) used his body well in marking contests and kicked the sealer at the 17-minute mark of the final term after marking in the goal square.

Defender Alex Silvagni (18 touches, 11 marks) impressed across half-back, forward Michael Apeness (17 touches, nine marks, one goal) was strong overhead and forward Shane Yarran (13 touches, three goals) displayed his class.

Luckless midfielder Anthony Morabito, who is out of contract, injured his right quad in the first quarter and took no further part in the game.

Peel takes on West Perth in next weekend's semi-final.

Geelong

State league affiliate: Geelong (VFL)
This weekend: Geelong v Essendon, First Elimination Final - Saturday September 3, 2.40pm, North Port Oval

Midfielders George Horlin-Smith and Nakia Cockatoo were among the best players for Geelong in its agonising 22-point elimination final loss to Essendon.

Horlin-Smith (21 disposals and two goals) and Cockatoo (17 disposals, nine tackles and two goals) both spent most of the game as inside midfielders. Horlin-Smith was important in helping the Cats come back from a 31-point deficit at the first break.

The finals stage appeared to affect Cockatoo's form early before he settled, with his aggression at stoppages a plus.

Defender Jed Bews struggled while matched up on Essendon's James Polkinghorne, who kicked four second-half goals to help his side to victory. Bews played in the senior team last week.

Nathan Vardy kicked two goals and had six hit-outs in a quiet game. He spent time up forward and in the ruck in his second match back from an ankle injury.

The 25-year-old appeared rusty in attack and struggled with timing when he attempted marks.

A tight hamstring kept Billie Smedts out of the game.

GWS

State league affiliate: Giants (NEAFL)
This weekend: Giants v Sydney University, Second Semi-Final - Saturday September 3, 2.15pm, Blacktown International Sportspark

A combined 100 hit-outs to Giants ruckmen Dawson Simpson and Tom Downie helped their side through to a Grand Final against the Swans after an 87-point win.

The midfielders were able to dominate with their big bodies on the inside. Jack Steele (42 disposals, 11 tackles, one goal), Dan Lloyd (38 and two goals), Rhys Palmer (35 disposals, 12 tackles and four goals) and Matthew Kennedy (31 and eight tackles) were all excellent.

Giants coach Brad Miller was impressed with Will Hoskin-Elliott's contribution of 25 disposals and two goals from a wing.

"It was a difficult day to try to get it on the outside, because the wind was howling … but as the game wore on, Will's run was really hard to defend and match up on," Miller said.

Adam Kennedy stood up across half-back. He finished with 17 disposals and two goals.

St Kilda

State league affiliate: Sandringham (VFL)
This weekend: Port Melbourne v Sandringham, Second Elimination Final - Sunday September 4, 2.40pm, North Port Oval

Defender Tom Lee and utility Cam Shenton were damaging in attack, kicking five and four goals respectively to steer Sandringham to a 45-point win.

Lee (12 touches, eight marks) played away from his customary defensive role and starred with three first-half goals, but his highlight came in the final term with a spectacular dribble goal from the boundary.

The 25-year-old entered the game having kicked seven goals for the year, so the surprise move into attack troubled the Port Melbourne defence.

Midfielder Tom Curren didn't let the disappointment of being delisted by the Saints affect him, gathering 31 disposals in a faultless display.

Onballer Eli Templeton (22 disposals, two goals) kicked the match-sealing goal after being awarded a 50m penalty for high contact at the 14-minute mark of the final term.

Sandringham takes on reigning premier Williamstown in next Saturday's semi-final.

Sydney Swans

State league affiliate: Sydney Swans (NEAFL)
This weekend: Sydney Swans v Aspley, First Semi-Final - Saturday September 3, 11.25am, Blacktown International Sportspark

Zak Jones was among the better players in his comeback from a high ankle sprain as the Sydney Swans recorded an 82-point win to send themselves through to the NEAFL Grand Final.

Jones finished with 17 disposals and a goal playing as a midfielder. The younger brother of Melbourne captain Nathan had not played since being injured in the round 17 loss to Hawthorn.

Retiring defender Ted Richards gathered 19 disposals, while Nic Newman (32 disposals and a goal) and Brandon Jack (28 disposals) also impressed.

Ruckman Toby Nankervis was prominent, collecting 24 disposals, 19 hit-outs and registering 2.3, without another couple being sent out on the full. His contested marking was a highlight.

Young midfielder Dan Robinson successfully returned from a shoulder reconstruction, picking up 21 disposals in about 80 minutes of game time. It was his first contest since round seven of the AFL season.

Robinson spent time at half-forward and through the middle.

The Swans will meet Greater Western Sydney's affiliate team (the University of Western Sydney Giants) next week to decide the NEAFL premiership.

West Coast

State league affiliate: East Perth (WAFL)
This weekend: Peel Thunder v East Perth, Elimination Final - Sunday September 4, 3.10pm, Bendigo Bank Stadium

The Eagles' already-stretched ruck division was dealt another blow after big man Fraser McInnes succumbed to a hamstring injury early in the 49-point elimination final loss.

Small midfielder Malcolm Karpany (team-high 22 disposals, seven marks) and draftee onballer Luke Partington (21 disposals, six inside 50s) led the stats sheet for the Eagles.

Defender Liam Duggan (19 disposals) was kept on his toes, while fellow backman Eric Mackenzie (18 disposals) attacked the ball well and lined up on Dockers-listed forward Michael Apeness, limiting his opponent's influence in the third quarter.

Defenders Jackson Nelson and Mitch Brown were held over ahead of Thursday night's elimination final against the Western Bulldogs at Domain Stadium.

Western Bulldogs

State league affiliate: Footscray (VFL)
This weekend: Casey Scorpions v Footscray, First Qualifying Final - Saturday September 3, 2pm, Casey Fields

Midfielder Mitch Honeychurch collected 32 disposals in a tough day for Footscray, as it went down to Casey by 70 points.

The Bulldogs will face Essendon in the VFL semi-final next week.

However, there were some positives for the Dogs, with Declan Hamilton picking up 25 disposals and three goals. He is yet to make his senior debut after being drafted at No.39 in 2014.

Former Brisbane Lions captain Jed Adcock had 17 disposals and a goal. Adcock will retire at the end of this season.

The Bulldogs are set to face West Coast in Perth on Thursday night, and anyone backing up in that game after playing in the VFL would only have had a five-day break.
