WILL Jack Watts play in round one?
It's the question Melbourne fans are asking, and the answer remains unclear.
Co-captain Nathan Jones says the match committee holds the cards, and fans will get an indication of the former No.1 draft pick’s chances when the Demons’ squad is revealed for their final JLT Community Series game next week.
That game against West Coast at Domain Stadium on Saturday week is surely Watts' target, and if he doesn't make the cut, his skipper concedes making the team for round one will be tricky.
"I don't think it rules him out - obviously it makes it a little more difficult because I guess match practice will come into consideration," Jones told AFL.com.au.
"The window's always open.
"I think we're judging all of Wattsy's performances not only on the footy field in terms of games but also his training and preparation.
"He's not leaving any stone unturned, I can assure you that."
Watts hasn't played a pre-season game because of failing to meet what the club has described as 'key criteria'.
The Demons open their season on Saturday 25 March against St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.
