CASEY faces a must win semi-final clash against Richmond at Fortburn Stadium (North Port Oval), Port Melbourne this Saturday at 12.40pm.
The Demons went down to Williamstown by 45 points at Burbank Oval (Williamstown) in last Saturday’s qualifying final, while Richmond knocked out Collingwood in last week’s elimination final.
Casey coach Justin Plapp said last week’s loss to Williamstown was “very disappointing”, but he was expecting his side to bounce back strongly against the Tigers.
“We’ve got the double-chance, as we finished in the top four, and we’re coming up against a really good opposition,” he told melbournefc.com.au.
“Our players have been put in tough situations this year and responded. We’ve done a lot of work on Richmond and if we want to progress any further, we must respond and win this week.
“Richmond hasn’t got any major injury concerns, so they’ll be fielding their strongest team that they can. If we’re not at our best, it’ll be a long day for us. But at our best, I’m confident, because I think our best is good enough.”
Meanwhile, Casey’s Development League has made this year’s Grand Final, after defeating Port Melbourne at Box Hill City Oval last weekend.
The Demons will play the winner of this weekend’s preliminary final, between Port Melbourne and Williamstown at Fortburn Stadium, next weekend.
Plapp said it was a strong effort from Casey, in what is the final year of the Development League.
“They played well last weekend, winning their qualifying final,” he said.
“Last year they came runner-up, so we feel we have a strong chance.
“They’ve got the week off and then they’ll play in the Grand Final next week.”
