BALL movement coach Mark Williams runs through the 22 players who played in Melbourne’s 45-point loss to Hawthorn at the MCG on Sunday
Rohan Bail: Rohan did a great job on Sam Mitchell. He really attacked the ball hard and we thought Rohan was among our better players. He played his role.
Clint Bartram: Clint was really solid early and produced some courageous acts. He gave his all.
Jamie Bennell: Jamie produced some good pressure acts, but we need him to be more involved in the game.
Aaron Davey: Aaron produced some flashes of brilliance, but also made some uncharacteristic turnovers.
Lynden Dunn: He had influences in different parts of the game, but his output was limited, mainly due to opportunities up forward.
James Frawley: Chipa was a little bit rusty, as we expected, after not playing any matches this year. But he’ll be better for the run.
Colin Garland: Col produced some really good defensive acts. He had his hands full with Buddy Franklin. But he can hold his head high. He has played on Adam Goodes and Franklin in the past two matches and done well.
Brad Green: Greeny featured in some good passages of play, but we needed some more defensive pressure from him and for it to increase.
Jack Grimes: Grimesy was good. He intercepted marks and switched the play really well. On a few occasions, he fumbled a little bit and didn’t execute his skills to the levels we know he can. It was uncharacteristic and it wasn’t what we expect.
Mark Jamar: Russian was very competitive in the ruck. He won the hit outs with 29.
Neville Jetta: Nev just ran out gas and ended up being substituted for Addam Maric.
Nathan Jones: Nathan played multiple positions and had a reasonably even game.
Liam Jurrah: Liam probably needs to get back to basics with his football. He needs to go for his marks, lead hard and work on his defensive pressure.
Addam Maric: Addam came on late in the third quarter as our substitute. We needed him to play a role and while his energy was good, unfortunately he didn’t make much impact.
Stef Martin: Stef was good. He was solid without being outstanding, but he’s starting to show some good signs for us, particularly with the attacking side of his game.
Brent Moloney: Beamer was like he always is - hard at the ball. He spread really well, but probably wasn’t rewarded for it on occasions.
Ricky Petterd: Ricky played multiple roles. When he was up forward, he found it difficult, due to the poor delivery into the forward line.
Jared Rivers: Jared was outstanding with his attack on the ball and switching the ball. He defended really well.
Colin Sylvia: Col was very good with his attacking play. He collected a team-high 26 disposals, but he needs to work on his defensive positioning.
Luke Tapscott: For his second game, Luke was very good. He had 23 disposals and had a real crack. It was another solid performance after impressing in round one.
Jack Trengove: Jack was solid in the first half, but ran out of gas a little bit in the second half. He made a few uncharacteristic errors.
Jack Watts: Jack took a really good contested mark and involved himself in the play, but now he needs to influence with every possession he gets.
