FOUR Melbourne players have been named in this year’s AFLW All-Australian team.

Daisy Pearce (rover), Elise O’Dea (half-forward flank), Karen Paxman (interchange) and Meg Downie (interchange) were all selected in the country’s best side for 2018.

The announcement of the side was made at this year’s AFLW awards.

Pearce, who is Melbourne’s captain, was named vice-captain of the 2018 All-Australian team, after she was skipper last year.

Pearce, O’Dea and Paxman were also included in the inaugural 2017 AFLW All-Australian team.

It was Downie’s first All-Australian selection, after she missed all but two rounds last year, due to a hamstring injury.

Mel Hickey, who injured her knee in the second last round of the 2018 home and away season, was named in the 2017 All-Australian team, but was not selected this year.

Bianca Jakobsson, Richelle Cranston and Tegan Cunningham, who were selected in the initial 2018 squad, didn’t make the final side.

Meanwhile, Aliesha Newman won the AFLW goal of the year.

Newman kicked an outstanding running goal against the Crows at Casey Fields to win this year’s award.
