THE MELBOURNE Football Club extends its deepest sympathies to the family of Colin Sylvia, following his tragic passing at the age of 32.
Sylvia, a much-loved figure during his time at the Demons, played 157 games for the red and blue across 10 seasons.
Kicking 129 goals, he become a dominant member of Melbourne’s midfield and forward line, after making his debut in round 9, 2004 against the Kangaroos.
CEO Gary Pert passed on his condolences to the Sylvia family, teammates and colleagues.
“On behalf of the Melbourne Football Club, I would like to express my deepest compassion to the Sylvia family,” Pert told Melbourne Media.
“Our thoughts are with those closest to Colin, his teammates and the extended Melbourne faithful at this very difficult time.
“Colin was not only a great footballer but also a great character, who built many meaningful relationships across the entire club.”

Originally from Merbein, Victoria, Sylvia was recruited from the Bendigo Pioneers and was taken at pick No.3 of the 2003 National Draft.
He wore the No.12 guernsey for the Demons, before a signing with Fremantle saw him continue his career in the west.
Playing six matches for the Dockers before announcing his retirement in 2015, Sylvia totalled 163 games and 130 goals across his 12-year career.
Receiving a Rising Star Nomination in 2005 and finishing fifth in the best and fairest in 2010 and 2013, Sylvia’s significant contribution to Melbourne was recognised with life membership in 2015.
