MELBOURNE utility Cam Pedersen is excited to be back in the AFL side for the Demons clash with Sydney at the MCG on Sunday.
Pedersen hasn’t played at the senior level since the Demons Queen’s Birthday loss to Collingwood, but will return to the side for his fourth match of the season.
“It’s very exciting to be back,” Pedersen told Melbourne Media.
“It’s been 10 weeks since I’ve played last and I’ve been playing some pretty good football at Casey and they’ve had their 12th win again yesterday (Saturday), which is exciting.
“So it’s good to see both teams are playing good football.”
Since returning to the VFL, Pedersen has been swung to defence and earned his spot in the side as a backman.
“Goody (Simon Goodwin) came to me about six weeks ago ... so he asked me to change my game around and go play down there,” he said.
“I’ve been doing that for the last five weeks at Casey and having some good results, so hopefully I can continue that.”
After beginning his career as a defender with North Melbourne, Pedersen has been a reliable swingman throughout his six years at the Demons.
And with an opportunity arising in defence, the 31-year-old has embraced the move to rejuvenise his career.
“[Goodwin] explained it to me that there would be a good opportunity there and I’m pretty versatile anyway,” Pedersen said.
“I was originally drafted as a backman.”
The Demons haven’t defeated Sydney since 2010, but Pedersen is confident his side can change that trend on Sunday afternoon.
“It has been a while but I think as we’ve shown in the last couple of years we’re very good at getting rid of all our hoodoos,” Pedersen said.
“So hopefully we can continue that trend.”
Melbourne will raise awareness for the Breast Cancer Network Australia during Sunday’s match and Pedersen is looking forward to playing on such a significant occasion for the club.
“It’s a great cause the BCNA match that we look forward to every year,” he said.
“There are so many brave women and families out there today and hopefully we can put on a good show for them and for the Melbourne faithful.”
