JAMES Harmes’ dominant performance against Hawthorn has earned him top votes in the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year Award.
The Melbourne midfielder received a perfect 10 from the coaches in his side’s Round 7 win at the MCG, finishing with 31 disposals, five tackles and a goal.
Alongside being the leading possession-getter on the ground, Harmes played an important role in shutting down Hawk Jaeger O’Meara, keeping him to just seven disposals after quarter time.
Ruckman Max Gawn, who finished with 46 hitouts and 17 possession of his own, received eight votes, while fellow midfielder Clayton Oliver also recognised (four votes).
Liam Shiels (four votes), Jack Gunston (two votes) and Blake Hardwick (two votes) rounded out those judged best afield.
