AFTER a self-confessed disappointing 2018 season, Jayden Hunt has turned a corner this year, thriving in a role up forward.
The 24-year-old has booted eight goals in the past five weeks after making the move forward and has regained plenty of belief in his own ability.
“Last year was a very difficult year for me for a number of reasons,” Hunt said on the club’s Inside Melbourne podcast.
“I think the team’s success was a light in the tunnel, even though I wasn’t a huge part in it, it was good just to see the boys up and about.
“It just made me hungry to want to be involved with it again.”
This year, Hunt has shown the pace and flare that made him an integral part of the Melbourne side during his first two seasons, leaving a difficult 2018 behind.
“In my exit interview I told the coaches that I don’t really want to mention this year (2018) again,” he said.
“I just wanted a fresh start because the previous season I showed I can play alright footy, so I really wanted just to chuck 2018 individually out the window and reset and get back to what I’m good at.
“So that was the mindset heading into the pre-season.”
And in recent weeks, Hunt has shown glimpses of his former self.
“[The focus is] probably just to keep that balance between taking the game on and using my teammates,” he said.
“Also, the mental side of the game. I’m pretty harsh on myself and it sometimes takes a bit to get over it.
“So it’s just moving on and realising not everything is going to be perfect and you’ve just got to move on.”
