EXCITING goalsneak Jeff Garlett says he can’t wait to start his life in the red and blue when he makes his debut for Melbourne against the Gold Coast Suns at the MCG on Saturday.
Garlett, who played 107 matches and kicked 183 goals for Carlton from 2009-14, said he couldn’t wait to play regularly at the ‘G. He said his main focus was to simply kick goals and provide forward pressure throughout the season.
“I’m just looking forward to playing consistent footy and playing my role for the team and doing the team thing. I’m looking forward to playing for the Melbourne Football Club,” he told Dee TV.
“It was pretty exciting to make your debut with Carlton, but this is a different club and I’m actually really looking forward to giving something back to the Melbourne fans and the club for giving me a second opportunity.
“It’s my first proper pre-season after my shoulder surgery, so it’s actually been pretty positive.”
Garlett said the move to Melbourne had been made easier after fellow Western Australian Neville Jetta had taken him under his wing.
The duo has been “pretty close” since their WAFL days.
Garlett, who has already become a fan favourite among the red and blue faithful, was one of Melbourne’s best performers in the recent NAB Challenge. And he said he was determined to keep up his goalkicking form into the season proper.
“It’s been good. I’ve still got a fair bit to improve, but I just want to be play footy and get back to playing at my best.”
