ANDY Moniz-Wakefield will miss the upcoming AFL season after rupturing his ACL in the Demons’ match simulation against North Melbourne on Saturday.

The 21-year-old was assisted from the field during the final minutes of the game at Arden St Oval, with scans later confirming the severity of the injury.

Melbourne GM of AFL Football Performance Alan Richardson provided an update on the up-and-coming defender.

“Unfortunately, scans have confirmed what we all feared, with Andy to miss the season with an injury to his ACL, MCL and PCL,” Richardson said.

“This is incredibly disappointing news for Andy, who has had a really strong pre-season. We have been so impressed by his attitude and will to get better, and he was starting to reap the rewards of his hard work.

“Andy will undergo surgery in the near future, before beginning to work through his recovery. As a club, we will wrap our arms around him and make sure he is well-supported.

“Despite being on the sidelines, we know Andy will still play an important role for us this season, particularly with the positive energy he brings to the club every single day.”

Meanwhile, defender Marty Hore will require surgery to mend fractures in his hand.

The 28-year-old, who suffered the blow in the opening quarter of the clash with the Roos, will meet with a surgeon in the coming days.

“It’s another unfortunate outcome after Saturday’s game, with Marty needing to undergo surgery on his hand,” Richardson said.

“Once Marty has met with the surgeon, we will have a better understanding of what his recovery timelines will look like.”
