AS THE club nears its pre-season fixture, the Demons have rounded out its week with match simulation at Casey Fields.

Melbourne Media was on track watch, with players aplenty hitting their stride.

In the opening moments of the contest, young forward Matt Jefferson put his hand up as a player to watch, taking a contested mark and kicking the first goal of the session.

It wasn’t long before the 20-year-old was once again amongst the action, darting through forward 50 traffic and slotting another score.

At the other end of the ground, veteran defender Jake Lever showed that his time in the rehab group hadn’t slowed him down, taking a number of intercepts during the first quarter.

Having recently returned to a full program after an off-season of shoulder and knee surgery, Lever provided plenty of rebounding opportunities for the team in white.

Similarly, Max Gawn didn’t shy away from getting into the contest after nearly six weeks of a non-contact schedule. The Melbourne skipper was back to his usual ways, clunking contested marks and showing his years of experience in the ruck.

In the second term, Jefferson continued to keep the goals coming for the white team. Thanks to the work of teammate Kynan Brown, who dodged through congestion to deliver the perfect kick, Jefferson was able to seal the six points from the goal square.

Xavier Lindsay showed moments of his flare, most notably in the second quarter when he danced through the contest to demonstrate his quick and silky skills.

Similarly, Trent Rivers was formidable in his new role through the midfield, linking up with the likes of Jack Viney and Kysaiah Pickett to create powerful and clean clearances.

Harrison Petty looked strong down back alongside the usual dangerous defenders in Steven May, Tom McDonald and Christian Salem.

During the third term, Andy Moniz-Wakefield wowed with a goal-saving smother on Brown, while Pickett’s fast movement at ground level resulted in the classic snap finish from Bayley Fritsch.

By the final siren a number of Demons had hit the scoreboard, including Aidan Johnson, Bailey Laurie, Ed Langdon and Pickett.

The team will continue to ramp up its match simulation sessions in preparation to take on North Melbourne on February 22 in its first pre-season fixture.
