THE LASTEST member of the 100-game club, leadership group member Clint Bartram, has praised the performance of key defender Tom McDonald.

McDonald had 19 touches and kept St Kilda superstar Nick Riewoldt to 13 disposals and two goals.

It was just McDonald’s sixth AFL match and fourth this season.

He was given the massive role after the late withdrawal of James Frawley (calf).

Bartram, who continues to grow as a leader, said McDonald was already a player the Dees could depend on giving his all.

“He’s a guy that’s definitely going to go the distance with you,” he said.

“He’s got a lot of trust from the playing group and (Saturday night) was the perfect example that he’s as dedicated to his job as anyone.”

Although disappointed to not break the drought with its first win of the season, Bartram said there were some positives to emerge.

“There are some promising signs, but at the same time, as a playing group, we’re hungry for a win,” he said.

“We didn’t get that tonight.”
