September 16, 2015 – day three

After yesterday’s session in the afternoon, Bill told me that tomorrow’s session would be a lot more active. He said we’d be incorporating a lot more movement and techniques, which we’re working on, into these new exercises.

So I woke up and I couldn’t be more excited for this morning’s session. This session was broken up into two parts.

The main focus point of the session was completing each movement like it is game related. Bill and Dave made sure that every action I performed was at high intensity and that I was focused.

We started off the session warming up the muscles and reiterating all the movements that we have covered over the last few days.

We incorporated a lot more balance work into my movements and I held a 20kg weight bag. It made things tough on the body, as I had to fight to get a great position not to fall over and lose balance.

This really helped set up the next hour as this next part of the session was working on improving the tone and muscles in my legs. It was one of hardest legs session I’ve done.

It was broken up into four sets. The first part of each set was spinning the legs over backwards on a spin bike with the resistance turned really high.

This might sound easy, but trust me, wait until you do it for 30 seconds and you’ll notice the biggest burn in your legs. I did this at the start of every set and overall I spent about six minutes on the bike.

I would then hop off the bike and Bill would have a set of leg exercises for me that varied from set to set. This fatigued me not just physically but mentally, as each time you hopped off the bike, you had no break. I had to go straight into the desired exercise and have a mindset to do well in each repetition.

Session two

Joel and I got back to the gym at 12:30pm again and this time we had to drive five minutes to a local college that had a lap pool.

Dave came with us and emphasised that this session was mainly about core and hips. It was also an off legs session, which really helped my muscles prepare for tomorrow’s session as well.

The session went for 45 minutes of consisted of non-stop core and back exercises.

Throughout each exercise the main idea was that I had to keep above the water and not let the pool buoys drag me down. This was very challenging towards the back end of the session, when your mind starts to switch off.

I really enjoyed the session as it was a change from what I was doing previously and it also gave me the chance to prepare for tomorrow’s session.
