MAX Gawn has etched his name in AFL history, becoming the 10th player in the competition to have seven or more All-Australian blazers.

Gawn was named in the side on Thursday night at the 2024 AFL Awards, the final team of 22 chosen by selectors to recognise the top players across all parts of the field – forwards, defenders and midfielders/rucks.

This seventh All-Australian selection comes in the space of nine years, having been named in 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 (captain) and 2022.

The Melbourne AFL captain holds the club record for the most All-Australian blazers, ahead of AFLW Demon Paxy Paxman, who currently holds five.

The 32-year-old was selected on-field in the ruck position having put together one of his best seasons to date, embracing the sole ruck role and solidifying himself as one of the top in competition’s history.

Despite missing two games due to injury, the skipper’s numbers weren’t affected, averaging 34 hitouts (fifth in the league), five marks, five clearances and 19 disposals. He also averaged the fourth highest fantasy points per game.

Gawn took a slight step back from time in the forward 50, but still managed to impact on the scoreboard kicking 11 goals and averaging five score involvements.
