AFTER another stellar individual campaign, Max Gawn has been named in the 2024 AFL All-Australian squad.

Gawn features in the 44-man line-up, an extended side chosen by selectors to recognise the top players across all parts of the field – forwards, defenders and midfielders/rucks.

If named in the final team, it will be his seventh All-Australian selection within the space of nine years, having been named in 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 (captain) and 2022.

A 2024 selection would also make Gawn the 10th player in competition history with seven or more All-Australian blazers.

The Melbourne AFL captain currently holds the club record for the most All-Australian blazers, ahead of AFLW Demon Paxy Paxman, who currently holds five.

The 32-year-old’s season saw him embrace the sole ruck role and despite missing two games due to injury, he continued to go from strength-to-strength putting together one of his best seasons to date.

His numbers speak for themselves, the skipper averaging 34 hitouts (fifth in the league), five marks, five clearances and 19 disposals. He also averaged the fourth highest fantasy points per game.

Despite taking a slight step back from time in the forward line, Gawn still impacted on the scoreboard kicking 11 goals and averaging five score involvements.

The final All-Australian team will be announced on Thursday night during the AFL Awards, with fans able to watch live via Fox Footy from 7:30pm (AEST).

The AFL Awards will also see the Telstra AFL Rising Star crowned, with young Demon Caleb Windsor in contention.
