MELBOURNE will be without Steven May this weekend, the defender sidelined with a rib injury.

May was subbed out of the Dees’ Round 21 match on Friday night, with the club’s High Performance Manager Selwyn Griffith providing an update on the Demon on Tuesday afternoon.

“Unfortunately, Steven suffered that injury during the match and had to be subbed out as he had some referred pain to his abdominals,” Griffith said.

“So, we wanted to make sure that he was clear of any internal damage, which fortunately our scans did clear him of any abdominal injury.

“He's now recovering at home. We’ll hopefully have him back in later this week, but he has been quite sore following that incident.

“Once we get him back in the club, we'll be able to assess what his progressions look like from there.”

Christian Salem continues to work through a minor hamstring injury, re-entering main training this week.

“For Christian, it's all about making sure that he's able to hit speed with comfort and that he's retaining his strength quality,” Griffith said.

“So, we've got our main session tomorrow, we’ll assess his from that and his availability for the weekend will be determined by what he can complete in that training tomorrow.”

In positive news for young Demon Caleb Windsor, the 19-year-old has started moving forward through his rehab of a syndesmosis injury sustained in Round 20.

“Caleb's progressed really well,” Griffith said.

“He's now progressing into some drilling out of the boot, and then we're putting him back into the boot just to continue to allow for his recovery. But he's progressed really well across the last week and a half.

“We’ll hopefully look to have him running by the end of the week. He's got a few markers to tick-off over the next 24 to 48 hours, and then we'll get a clearer picture of how we can progress him from there.”

Charlie Spargo (Achilles) and Christian Petracca (spleen) remain on the long-term injury list.
