In the final round of the season, the Casey Demons faced off against the Southern Saints in a competitive match that ultimately saw the Saints emerge victorious by 16 points.

The Saints displayed superior efficiency in converting their scoring opportunities, which proved to be the deciding factor. They intercepted every Casey forward 50 entry in the third quarter.

Despite a spirited performance, the Demons were unable to convert enough of their 31 inside 50s, compared to the Saints' 28, to clinch the win.

Jo Lin was a key player for Casey. Her vision and creativity were on full display as she scored three goals. One highlight was a remarkable mark she took facing directly into the sun, converting it into a goal followed by a jubilant celebration.

Meg Macdonald was instrumental in the midfield and defence, leading the team with 20 disposals and contributing significantly with eight tackles. Her efforts were pivotal in keeping the Demons competitive throughout the match.

Niamh O’Neill was another key player for Casey, finishing with one goal, 15 disposals, and seven clearances, showcasing her ability to impact the game both offensively and defensively.

India Makai displayed relentless determination, amassing 16 disposals, 11 handballs, and three clearances. Her tenacity was evident as she fought tirelessly throughout the match.

In defence, Kasey Phillips and Soph Casey were crucial in resisting the Saints' constant attacks. Each finished with 14 disposals, helping mitigate the impact of the Saints' forward pressure.

This match was particularly poignant as it marked the farewell of two of the Demons' most esteemed players, Sammie Johnson and Alicia Bertrand.

Both have had long, decorated careers with the Demons, leaving a legacy of excellence, leadership, and inspiration. Their presence on and off the field has been instrumental in shaping the team’s spirit and performance over the years.

Sammie Johnson, known for her resilience and leadership, has consistently delivered outstanding performances as a cornerstone of the team. Her retirement is a significant moment for the club, as she has not only been a key player but also a mentor and role model for younger teammates.

Alicia Bertrand’s impact has been equally profound. Her tenacity and skill have been a driving force for the Demons, and her departure marks the end of an era. Both players have left an indelible mark on the club, and their contributions will be remembered and celebrated for years.

Although the season didn't end as hoped, the Casey Demons are grateful for the unwavering support from the fans who showed up weekly to support the VFLW. The team looks forward to building on this year’s experiences and coming back stronger in 2025.
