CHRISTIAN Salem is a chance to make a return to football this weekend.
After suffering a hamstring injury during Round 5, the defender has worked his way back into the main training group, with one more fitness test to pass before selection availability.
“Christian had a really successful session on the weekend,” Selwyn Griffith, the club’s High-Performance Manager, told Narrm Media.
“He’ll integrate into full training with the group this week and will look to be available for selection this weekend.”
Coming out of the club’s one-point loss to Carlton, forward Jacob van Rooyen has been forced to enter concussion protocols.
“Unfortunately for Jacob he sustained a concussion in the last couple of minutes in that game,” Griffith said.
“He’s progressing through those protocols, so won’t be available for this week’s game, but we’ll hopefully see him back for the St Kilda [Euro-Yroke] game."
In more news out of Round 9, defender-turned-forward Daniel Turner has been sidelined with a calf injury.
“Daniel had some calf soreness at the end of the game and scans have shown he’s got a low-grade soleus strain,” Griffith said.
“So, he’ll miss the next couple of weeks, but will begin to progress through our return-to-play protocols.”
In a similar case, Marty Hore was unable to complete the club’s VFL game on Friday night and received scans following the match.
“Marty wasn’t able to finish the game due to some calf tightness,” Griffith said.
“He’s presented with a low-grade gastrocnemius strain and will progress through our return-to-play protocols as he achieves certain markers.”
Josh Schache will also spend some time on the sidelines after scans revealed his heel was under bone stress.
“He’s been dealing with some bone bruising following an incident in a VFL game a few weeks ago,” Griffith said.
“He’d been able to progress into some training…but was still having some pain in his heel.
“After some further scans, it has shown that he does have some bone stress in and around that heel which will unfortunately mean he’ll need some time off legs to allow for healing.”
Charlie Spargo (Achilles) and Jake Melksham (knee) are continuing to progress through their respective rehab schedules.
