Bailey OK but skipper needs to lift: Stynes
By Chloe Saltau
RATHER than turn the heat on the coach, Melbourne chairman Jim Stynes has pointed to on-field leadership as an area of concern for the Demons, indicating that captain Brad Green is struggling to combine his new role with his own form issues. Stynes yesterday said Dean Bailey's coaching tenure would ''definitely not'' be on the agenda at a board meeting tomorrow night - but conceded that everyone at Melbourne was under pressure after the team's dreadful performance against West Coast on Thursday night. Bailey is in the final year of his contract and expected his position would be scrutinised after the 54-point defeat in Perth. Sure enough, questions are being asked about the Demons' game plan and whether the lack of intensity shown by the players reflected a deeper malaise at Melbourne Stynes spoke to Bailey at length after the West Coast game but insisted in a radio interview yesterday that the coach's job security was not a topic of conversation. ''We didn't talk about that. We just talked about the game and discussed what the plan for next week was. There is no point in getting into other areas. We're all feeling the pressure, there's no point getting all frantic just because you had a poor loss,'' Stynes said on 3AW.
