MATT Brewer, current Melbourne AFLW Midfield Coach, will take on the role of Casey VFLW Senior Coach for the 2024 season.
Brewer will have a double role with both the VFLW and AFLW sides, allowing him to work closely with players in all stages of their development.
The son of former Melbourne player Ross Brewer, Brewer had a formidable history with Box Hill Hawks’ VFL side as a Premiership Captain and member of their All-Star team.
Following time with Oakleigh Chargers, Brewer came on-board with the Casey Demons in 2022.
He transitioned to leading the AFLW midfield group through season seven, and continued in season 2023.
Jessie Mulholland, Head of Women’s Football, commended Brewer’s appointment and his commitment to the program.
“We are so excited to have Matt as the Head Coach of our VFLW Program. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience at the highest level as a Premiership and current line coach of our AFLW program,” Mulholland said.
She also praised his leadership and coaching style, which prioritises connection to build strong Demon Spirit.
“His ability to build relationships and connect with players and staff will be a massive asset to our program.”
Brewer succeeds outgoing coach Peter Mercoulia, and joins Sebastian Mueller-Schmuki and Samantha Johnson (Midfield), Shayne Honey and Caitlin Conroy (Forwards), Rebecca Ticli (Backline), and Development Coaches Ali Dowler and Kelly Thompson.
