MIDFIELDER James Harmes will be in new colours next season, after the club agreed to a trade with the Western Bulldogs on Tuesday afternoon.
Harmes, who has played 152 games for the Demons, will head to Whitten Oval, with the Demons receiving a future third-round selection in return.
Melbourne List Manager Tim Lamb thanked the 28-year-old for his contribution over the past nine seasons.
“Since joining us at the end of 2014, James has been a terrific contributor,” Lamb said.
“He has grown as both a person and a player in our environment and has always displayed genuine care for his teammates and coaches.
“We respect James’ decision to explore his options and seek greater opportunities, and thank him for all he has done for the Melbourne Football Club.”
Harmes was selected by the Demons with pick No.2 in the 2014 Rookie Draft, making his debut in Round 15 of the following season.
He played nine senior games in 2023, and departs as a premiership player, having been part of Melbourne’s successful 2021 AFL campaign.
