MATCH PREVIEW:
Thursday night’s match will mark a significant moment in AFLW history. It will be the first time Melbourne and Geelong have faced each other, setting the scene for what is going to be an exciting match-up at GMHBA Stadium.

The reigning premiers are on a 13-game winning streak, a current AFLW record, and have shown that their 2023 isn’t slowing down, with four dominant displays to open the season.

The Cats have also started off on a strong note, having lost just the one game to North Melbourne. They’re coming off an impressive win over Port Adelaide in Adelaide and will be relishing in a return to their home deck for the Thursday clash.

Long story short, tomorrow night’s game is set to be a big battle down the highway, so make sure to head to the game or tune in to see who takes out the first win.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Melbourne
Tyla Hanks
For a long time now, Hanks has been a dominant presence in the league, known for her efficient ball-use and strength in the contest.

This season, she’s somehow pushed her game to another level, with a number of standout displays to kick off her 2023. She’s currently averaging 24 disposals and eight score involvements, showing just how much of an impact she can have inside 50.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Geelong
Amy McDonald
Much like Hanks, McDonald has been a consistent performer for a long time, crowned Geelong’s best and fairest for three consecutive seasons.

She is an elite onballer, who showed in season seven that she was one of the top contested players in the league, her average disposals and contested possessions the highest of any player in the AFLW. McDonald is currently averaging 24 disposals, six clearances and eight tackles.
