MADDI Gay will need to get through training on Tuesday to be available for selection in Round 5.
Gay was ruled out of last week’s match against Hawthorn, with the club opting to manage the experienced Demon.
Sam Batterton, AFLW Head of High-Performance, provided an update on the utility on Tuesday.
“Maddi was just really sore following [Round 3] and the first three games after an interrupted pre-season,” Batterton told Melbourne Media.
“For that reason, we just looked after her last week. She’ll train today and if she gets through that session, she’ll look to be available for selection.”
Sammie Johnson will remain on the sidelines for one more week as she continues to work through a calf injury.
“Sammie is tracking well but due to the nature of the injury, it’s just taken a little bit longer, so she’ll miss this week,” Batterton said.
“But we’re looking to get her available next week.”
In good news for Megan Fitzsimon, the young Demon has made a successful return to the training track following a short stint sidelined with a lower back injury.
“She’s passed through that [rehab] and she fully trained today,” Batterton said.
“So, she will be available for selection this week.”
