TWO of Melbourne’s young stars may be available for selection ahead of Round 4, with Alyssa Bannan and Megan Fitzsimon facing fitness tests.

During a contest in the team’s match against the Bulldogs on the weekend, Alyssa Bannan left the ground with ankle soreness and did not return to the field.

Sam Batterton, AFLW Head of High-Performance, said the speedy forward would need to get through training this week to be considered for the Hawthorn clash.

“We’ll test her today and get her moving and then she’ll look to train Thursday to hopefully be available for the game Friday," Batterton said.

Megan Fitzsimon, who has been sidelined for two weeks now, will face a fitness test later this week as she looks to return from a minor lower back injury.

“Megan has done really well,” Batterton said.

“She’s returning to training today - her first full session back with the group - and if she gets through today, she’ll be available for this week.”

Sammie Johnson was also missed on the training track last week, joining the rehab group with a minor calf strain.

Batterton confirmed that Johnson would not be available for selection, with the aim to be available for Melbourne’s match against Geelong.

“Sammie returned to running last week and has been building up her loads,” Batterton said.

“She’ll join some of the training today and more of the training on Thursday.

“She will miss this week but will look to integrate into the main group fully next week to be available for Round 5.”
