In Round 19, the Demons take on Richmond in the 25th Annual Berry Street Cup clash.  As part of the day’s activities, we are looking for 30 kids to take part in the 'Never Give Up' Tug-of-War Challenge.

Any child aged between eight and 14 can enter the competition to be part of the tug-of-war, which will take place on the hallowed turf before the game.

To enter, send an email to competition@melbournefc.com.au stating your name, age and contact phone number.

We will be accepting only the first 30 eligible entries, and winners will be notified by Wednesday 4 August.

Supporters of both clubs - and the general public - are encouraged to come along to the game, and bring a few extra gold coins to donate to Berry Street volunteers outside the ground.

“We are very proud to be playing for the 25th Berry Street Cup and hopefully we can continue to support Berry Street for another 25 years and beyond,” said James McDonald, who has played in a number of Berry Street Cup clashes over his career.

The tug-of-war challenge is a light-hearted representation of Berry Street’s very serious and enduring commitment to helping kids who have suffered abuse or neglect.

The Berry Street Cup is the longest standing AFL charity game and is a proud tradition of both clubs and Berry Street, who together share more than 400 years as Melbourne institutions.

Berry Street believes that all children should have a good childhood, growing up in families and communities where they feel safe, nurtured and have hope for the future.

A special web page has been set up for Melbourne supporters who wish to donate to Berry Street in the lead-up to the game. One lucky donor will win a team signed Melbourne guernsey. Click here to donate.
