Trengove may have charge to answer
By Tony Sheahan

MELBOURNE'S young gun Jack Trengove could face suspension for executing a perfect tackle, according to umpires' boss Jeff Gieschen.  Trengove applied a near-perfect tackle to Bulldog Callan Ward on Friday night, with the officiating umpire awarding Trengove the free kick as Ward was caught holding the ball. Despite the supposed correct decision on the night, Gieschen said the tackle contained "characteristics of a sling tackle". "The question we have to ask now is was it dangerous?" Gieschen said. "The umpire who awarded the free kick against Ward obviously didn't think it was a dangerous tackle. Ward went to ground and the umpire deemed that his body hit the ground and not his head, and that there were no ill effects."

Clarkson and Dees a perfect fit, says Lyon
By Jon Pierik

MELBOURNE legend Garry Lyon says Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson would be a ''magnificent fit'' with the Demons should Dean Bailey not be reappointed. A 10-goal loss to the Western Bulldogs on Friday night has again turned the spotlight on Bailey, who is off contract at the end of the season, and his inconsistent Demons. Clarkson's contact also expires this year but the Hawks have so far refused to budge to secure an early deal for their 2008 premiership mentor. He has already been linked with Adelaide, with his manager, Liam Pickering, confirming the pair would consider any deal offered by the Crows. Bailey yesterday admitted defeats of the magnitude of Friday night, after the Demons had won three of their previous four games, had hurt his hopes of being reappointed. ''I don't think they help,'' he said.
