CO-CAPTAIN Jack Trengove and key forward Mitch Clark are set to play their first match of any sorts in 2013 this weekend.
The duo has been pencilled in to play for Casey this Saturday against Port Melbourne at Casey Fields in a VFL practice match.
Both players have been hampered by foot injuries. Clark suffered his midway through last season, and Trengove’s setback occurred in the pre-season.
Young gun Jack Viney (neck) has also been slated to return, according to football manager Josh Mahoney.
“All things going well this week, we expect that Mitch [Clark], Jack Trengove and Jack Viney will be available to play for Casey this weekend,” Mahoney said.
“Both Mitch and Jack have steadily built up their workloads after long term injuries, and this progression into games is consistent with their original plan.”
Boom recruit Chris Dawes (hamstring), defender Tom McDonald (ankle) and dasher Sam Blease (ankle) face fitness tests this week.
“Sam, Tom and Chris are all progressing and getting closer to playing - whether it is this week or next will depend on their sessions this week,” Mahoney said.
Ruckman Max Gawn (hamstring) and runner Rohan Bail (concussion) will miss at least the next two weeks.
The Demons play their opening match of the season against Port Adelaide at the MCG on Sunday, March 31.
