Pre-season update: Strauss to Tynan
From one emerging defender to another developing backman, check out how the players wearing No.19 to No.23 are building this pre-season
This is James’ first full pre-season. We’re moving past the James Strauss, who broke his leg, to just James Strauss the footballer. He’s really matured and I’ve seen a lot of improvement in his game in the past six weeks, which has been acknowledged by the backline team. – Jade Rawlings
20. Colin Garland
Col’s had an excellent pre-Christmas. He’s really improved his endurance and his repeated speed. His skill level has been good – his defensive fundamentals have been highlights of his summer so far. – Jade Rawlings
21. Cameron Pedersen
Cam is very diligent. He’s come into the club from North Melbourne and he’s earned respect through hard work. Cam’s always looking to do more, which is great from a coaching point-of-view. He’s completed nearly every session pre-Christmas, so he’s set himself up for a good 2013 season. – Leigh Brown
22. James Magner (rookie)
James came back from the post-season break in outstanding, physical condition, which has allowed him to be one of the leaders in all aspects of our training over the pre-season period. His running and conditioning has been in the top three or four players and he continues to improve in all areas of his football. – Brian Royal
23. Josh Tynan
Josh has just joined the group over the past two weeks, after an end of season foot injury held him back. His positivity and the way he’s returned from a fitness perspective have been really impressive. We’re just looking forward to him getting some continuity in his training after Christmas. – Jade Rawlings
