IN EXCITING news for Dees fans, Bayley Fritsch will look to be available for selection ahead of the side’s Round 24 match against Sydney.
After sustaining a foot fracture during a marking contest, Fritsch had been sidelined since Round 16.
Melbourne’s High Performance Manager Selwyn Griffith said the 26-year-old was tracking well to make a return to play this weekend.
“He’s completed a good block of training following his surgery,” Griffith told Melbourne Media.
“He almost full trained last week and completed a match-load session on the weekend.
“So, he’ll full train this week and will be available for selection.”
In other news on the injury front, Michael Hibberd has been sidelined following an incident in the VFL on Sunday.
“Unfortunately, he sustained a concussion in the second half of the VFL game,” Griffith said.
“He’s entered the 12-day concussion protocols and will progress as symptoms allow.”
Ben Brown was a notable absence from the VFL match, with Griffith confirming that the tall forward was a late withdrawal.
“Ben was prepared to play but unfortunately had an incident during the warm-up,” Griffith said.
“So, he was unable to play on the weekend and as we’ve done throughout the year, we’ve got to be progressive with his loading from a knee perspective.
“He’ll continue to progress day-to-day and look to be available for selection once his knee is ready."
Harrison Petty (foot), Blake Howes (hand) and Oliver Sestan (elbow) are all continuing through rehab for their respective season-ending injuries.
