THE WEEK leading into Melbourne’s Round 20 win was unlike any other.

The Demons chose to open their doors to the people closest to them, topping it off with a special game day experience.

During the week, players were encouraged to invite a loved one to join them at the Dees, allowing their family, friend, partner access and insight into how they spend their days at the club.

Beginning with an opportunity to connect, everyone was invited down to a morning training session at Casey Fields, showing them the ins and outs of what makes up their work environment.

This was then followed by a unique pre-game meeting on Sunday ahead of Melbourne’s clash against Richmond where loved ones were included in the match preparations.

The week was then made extra special when the Demons won by 32 points, with family and friends singing the song alongside players and staff.

Max Gawn, who invited his father into the club, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to have family by his side.

“We had a choice of a loved one to follow us around this week at training, get involved in team meetings and of course, if we won, come into the song,” Gawn explained.

“Mine was my old man, he’s been around my football career since I was nine years old, so, it was a no-brainer to bring him in on this.

“A lot of the values that I play with and that I have within my family off the field, stem from my old man.

“To have that enjoyment, with him singing the song…it was a really incredible week.”
