VERSATILE tall Harrison Petty could return from rib soreness in time to face Richmond on Sunday at the MCG, with the swingman named in the side’s extended squad.
Melbourne will continue to tinker with its forward structure as it takes on the Tigers, leaving Ben Brown out of its side.
The Demons have trialled a number of different looks ahead of the ball in recent weeks as the club zeroes in on its ideal structure.
Tom Sparrow will also miss the MCG clash on Sunday afternoon, withdrawn from the team following Thursday's main session.
"After training today, Tom experienced some tightness in his calf and pulled up a bit sore," GM of AFL Football Performance Alan Richardson says.
"Unfortunately he will miss this week's match. We do, however, expect him to be back and available for selection next week."
The replacements for the outgoing duo will be selected from the club’s extended bench, with the final 22 released at 5pm on Friday, July 28.
Petty joins James Harmes, Brodie Grundy, Charlie Spargo and Michael Hibberd on the eight-man interchange alongside Joel Smith, Taj Woewodin and Judd McVee.
