The Casey VFLW team have found their form that they had early in the season and have won in back-to-back games, this week over North Melbourne, the final score 5.4 (34) to 3.3 (21).

It was a tight and immense start to the game with both teams looking up for the challenge and searching to impose their own game styles onto the match.

North Melbourne was looking to play fast on the break and use the open spaces to capitalise on a tight and congested Casey side.

Casey was seeking to keep the ball in the contest and create a tussle of a match that would frustrate the Kangaroos, with the ball constantly trapped in the contest.

For the most part, neither style was implemented well early on.

North’s pressure was extraordinary, and they didn’t give the Demons players any time and space on the ball when it broke free.

Casey was struggling to adjust to the constant pressure and had multiple kicks smothered and sent back the other way.

Despite giving the ball away, Casey held their defensive structure well and were able to prevent the away side from capitalising on their turnovers.

A very wet footy made skill execution tough and that was able to be seen with the score at quarter time 0.1 (1) to 0.2 (2), the Kangaroos way.

The second term saw Casey dominate proceedings.

The ball was cemented in the Demons forward line and kept North Melbourne on edge as they began to buckle under the bombardment of chances from the home team.

Casey put two goals on the board thanks to Irishwoman Niamh O’Neill, who grew into the game and became a real handful for opposing defenders.

The Roos were able to peg one back going into half time, but Casey had a seven-point lead to maintain.

The third period was an even contest as the game began to open.

Both teams were trading goals and head into the last quarter with the same margin as the previous break.

The last quarter was an excellent display of forward pressure and locking in an opponent by the Casey side.

The Demons were able to keep the ball in their forward half of the field and prevent North Melbourne from having any sight at goal.

Captain Ally Kirkwood and experienced defender Belinda Woolcock were the leaders on field, intercepting every rebound kick from the Kangaroos and sending to straight back where it came from.

Two wins in a row is a huge momentum boost for the Casey Demons who now find themselves only one win outside the final’s places.

They will be looking to continue this run of form next week as they take on the Southern Saints at RESA park.
