FRIDAY NIGHT footy has ended in defeat for Narrm, going down to Yartapuulti at Adelaide Oval.
After a first half that saw the Demons trail by 13 points, the home side held on to claim a narrow four-point win.
Senior coach Simon Goodwin joined media following the loss and credited the pressure of his side’s opposition, detailing the challenge of facing an in-form Yartapuulti outfit.
“The game wasn’t a surprise, it was the top game we expected, I would’ve thought it was a pretty good game of footy,” Goodwin said.
“Port just won the territory battle, they’re a very good front-half side and make it incredibly hard for you to get the ball out.
“They’ve been very strong in that part of the game all season and especially in the last six weeks, so we’ve got some work to do to make sure we get that right.
“If we get that right, the result will be different.”
While it was a disappointing loss for the Demons, their game wasn’t without sparks of excellence.
The third term saw Narrm turn a 13-point deficit into a 11-point lead with goals from seven separate goal-kickers.
Goodwin said the group would walk away with opportunities to learn and grow, ready to implement improvements in preparation for next weekend’s match against Walyalup.
“At half time, we challenged our playing group, and they responded accordingly, and they’ve been able to do that for a while now,” Goodwin said.
“Our ability to turn momentum around at half time, the game was nowhere near where we wanted it, and then we were able to shift momentum in-game quite significantly.
“To come out here and go down by four points, we walk away with some positives, some opportunities.
“Yes, we are incredibly disappointed to lose a game of footy, we always are, that’s AFL footy, and you’re going to lose sometimes.
“But it’s what you do about it and I think, out of this, we will grow, there’s no question about it.”
