MELBOURNE’S ANZAC Day Eve match saw one lucky fan achieve the first ever successful execution of the Haymes Paint Kick for Cash.
Hamish Andrew kicked a Sherrin 30m into the Haymes Paint barrel winning $10,000 for the Sunshine Football Club in front of 83,000 people at the MCG.
Haymes Paint has been a proud sponsor of the Melbourne Football Club since 2015. In 2021 Haymes Paint launched the Kick for Cash competition to support local sporting clubs.
After two years of unsuccessful participants, Andrew became the very first person to land the ball in the can and win the major prize for his local football club.
Andrew said he was overwhelmed by his performance but was ecstatic to be able to provide further opportunities for his football club.
“I had been putting a bit of practice in at the footy club trying to kick the ball into a wheelie bin and it didn’t go too badly,” Andrew said.
“That said, when the ball went in on the night, I was initially in a bit of shock before I saw Abera and Robbo. That shock quickly turned to joy and euphoria – and the hours following were insane.”
Haymes Paint Chief Executive Officer Rod Walton was delighted to be able to join Andrew and club members of the Sunshine Football Club after training this week to congratulate the winners.
“As a proud sponsor of the Melbourne Football Club, we recognised the positive impact that local football clubs have in communities,” Walton said.
“We knew that footy clubs had been doing it tough during their 2020 and 2021 season. As Haymes Paint is a proudly Australian made and family run business, it made perfect sense for us to support local clubs and their families launching the competition.
“I’d encourage all clubs to enter Kick For Cash and try their luck at winning. Sunshine Football Club is proof that it is possible to win the major prize.”
President of the Sunshine Football Club, Chris Gatt, said the major prize would be of great help to existing programs within the club, both on and off field.
“We are investing a lot of time, effort, and money into current programs for our existing players,” Gatt said.
“Whether it be player welfare, off-field development of leadership and things of that nature.
“While we haven’t decided on an exact use of funds, I suspect it will allow us to further grow and implement some of these strategies for our whole program, from Auskick right through to our open age, senior program.”
