MELBOURNE has broken its membership record for the fifth consecutive year, finishing with 36,937 members at the June 30 cut-off date for 2011.
Club president Jim Stynes thanked all members for their ongoing support.
“The sheer number of members getting behind the Club is a true reflection of where the Club is headed,” he said.
“We’ve definitely had some ups and downs this year, but we thank each and every one of the 36,937 supporters for sticking with us and showing their loyalty by signing up as a member.
“The challenge doesn’t stop here though, I know we can get to 40,000 members, and we’ll be doing everything possible to smash the record again and achieve that 40,000 member mark in 2012.”
The Demons’ final membership figure of 36,937 includes some pleasing statistics:
- 11 per cent growth in total membership from 2010
- More than 6,800 new members joined in 2011
- Highest number of junior members ever recorded - up more than nine per cent on 2010
- Reserved seat purchases increased by more than 15 per cent on 2010
- MCC members who also joined as MFC members was at an all time high of 9,980 in 2011
