Melbourne forward Lynden Dunn has undergone surgery on his fractured cheekbone after a receiving a heavy knock to the face during Sandringham’s VFL practice match against Port Melbourne.
The injury occurred in a collision with Port Melbourne’s Bo Nixon.
The injury could keep Dunn out for up to six weeks, but an official return date has not yet been set.
General Manager of Football Operations Chris Fagan said, “Dunny has put in a big pre-season and it is a bit of a blow for him, but he is a pretty resilient kid, and I have no doubt he will bounce back strongly.”
In other injury news, promising youngster James Frawley has been ruled out for up to six weeks with a stress fracture of the foot, and defender Jared Rivers has experienced some hamstring soreness and will await the results of a scan.
