CASEY Scorpions have defeated Geelong by 13 points at Skilled Stadium on Sunday.
The Scorps 18.12 (120) defeated the Cats 16.11 (107).
Casey started slowly, failing to register a goal in the opening term, and by the start of the second term, they trailed by 19 points.
But the Scorpions settled in the second quarter, outscoring Geelong with five goals to three. Heading into half-time, Casey trailed by just eight points.
Versatile tall Cameron Pedersen was solid down back with 23 disposals, 10 marks and one goal.
In the third term, Casey was outstanding, kicking 11 goals. Midfielders David Rodan and Tom Couch were pivotal during this period.
Casey went into the final change leading by 37 points and looked to have the game in the bag.
But the final term proved to be a nail-biter with Geelong clawing its way back into the contest. Late in the term, the Cats got to within five points, but the Scorpions managed to hold on for victory.
Youngster Jesse Hogan was outstanding, kicking five goals, 19 possessions, seven marks and three tackles.
Forward Jack Fitzpatrick was also very good up forward, booting five goals. He also provided relief for big man Jake Spencer in the ruck. Fitzpatrick finished with 19 hitouts and 11 disposals.
Spencer, who was an emergency for Melbourne last week, was also very good with 37 hit outs and six tackles. He continually provided the midfielders with first use of the ball.
Couch won 30 disposals, while David Rodan (25), Pedersen (23), Joel Macdonald (20), Hogan (19), Mitch Clisby (19) and Rory Taggert (17) were also among Casey’s leading ball winners.
Hogan, Rodan, Couch, Pedersen, Fitzpatrick and Spencer were among Casey’s best.
Next week, Casey heads to Trevor Barker Beach Oval to take on Sandringham at 2pm.
