THE MELBOURNE Football Club is pleased to announce its AFL leadership structure for 2023, with Max Gawn set to lead the Demons for a fourth consecutive season.
Gawn, who assumed the captaincy in 2020, will once again be supported by Jack Viney in the role of vice-captain.
The formidable duo will be further supported by a number of senior players, who will continue to drive elite standards and behaviours among the group.
Gawn, a six-time All-Australian and two-time Keith ‘Bluey’ Truscott Memorial Trophy winner, has been an integral member of the Demons outfit for over a decade now, having established his unique leadership style in more recent years.
The ruckman’s determination, resilience and jovial nature sets him apart, and makes for a balanced approach admired by all.
Viney, who has an innate ability to inspire his teammates, is equally as respected both on and off the field.
The tenacious midfielder leads by example and, with an unwavering commitment to the playing group, has a continual appetite for growth. This season will mark the eighth year he has been recognised as a formal leader of the club.
Gawn and Viney, having earnt the trust of their teammates and the entire club, were once again voted into the roles by their peers. The stability is set to allow the Demons to build on the momentum of their past two seasons and push for success in 2023.
