MELBOURNE has made three changes to its list, with Sabreena Duffy, Ali Brown and Ella Little informed that they will not receive a contract for the 2023 AFL Women’s season.
Duffy, who joined the Demons through free agency in June, played four games in the red and blue after making the move over from Western Australia.
A persistent foot injury meant her last game came in Round 8 against the Gold Coast SUNS.
That match also marked Brown’s last outing in a Demons jumper, having played a further three games during season six of the competition.
The 25-year-old was selected by Melbourne in the 2021 NAB AFL Women’s Draft with prior experience at St Kilda and Carlton.
For Little, the news brings to an end a four-month journey, having signed with Melbourne as a replacement player in August.
Melbourne AFLW List Manager Todd Patterson thanked all for their contribution to the club.
“Unfortunately, ahead of the release of any list rules, we needed to bring our squad size back down to the regular 30 positions leaving these three players without a contract,” he told Melbourne Media.
“Each player in our program has a unique and special journey and these three are no different.
“For players like Ella and Sabreena to uproot their lives in pursuit of their dream is quite incredible and they definitely played a part in our success this season.
“The same goes for Ali who, after an up and down experience in the AFLW, fought hard through our VFLW program and was always reliable, well-humoured and hardworking.
“These decisions are never easy but all three of these players will forever be a part of our inaugural premiership.”
