MELBOURNE has selected 195cm forward Matthew Jefferson with its first selection in the 2022 NAB AFL National Draft.

The Oakleigh Chargers, Wesley College and Vic Metro’s Under 18 side representative is a raw and rangy forward with a sticky set of hands and strong contested mark.

National Recruiting Manager Jason Taylor gives some insight into our first selection Matthew Jefferson.

Tipping the scales at 84kg, the key forward prospect averaged 3.5 goals per game at the U18 National Championships, clunking just under two contested grabs per game. 

A breakout seven-goal game against Western Australia didn't do his draft prospects any harm as lightly-built forward climbed the draft rankings.

Jefferson continued his strong goal-kicking record at NAB League level, booting 14 majors from six outings for the Oakleigh Chargers.
