FOUR Demons have been recognised for their stellar campaigns, named in the AFLW Season Seven All-Australian squad.
In the second season of 2022, and the first with 18 teams in the competition, Kate Hore, Karen Paxman, Olivia Purcell and Tayla Harris were deemed to be in the top 42 players.
Hore has been called-up to the squad for the second time this year, while she was named in the final 21 in 2020.
Her sixth season at the top level has marked her first as the club’s vice-captain, and the has thrived with the added responsibility, leading the league for score involvements and kicking the second most goals per game.
Hore’s increased opportunity in the leadership group came after Paxman stood aside, but that didn’t impact the latter’s form.
Paxman, who has been a consistent contributor for the Dees since the club’s inaugural season, is currently a five-time All-Australian, and could be on the verge of another blazer.
The 33-year-old averaged 18.7 disposals per outing and was as effective as always through the midfield.
Paxman’s role shifted slightly this season, with Purcell becoming the team’s best ball-winning on-baller.
The former Cat could become a two-time All-Australian, following a breakout campaign where she averaged a career-high 24.4 disposals and four clearances per game.
Finally, Harris’ selection in the squad comes as no surprise, with the opportunity for the key forward to earn a fourth blazer in her young career.
Harris, who has been an All-Australian for both Brisbane and Carlton, was a dominant presence up forward for Melbourne slotting 10 goals this season, but she also spent more time in the ruck than ever before.
The 25-year-old averaged 10 hit-outs and 3.4 marks, performing any role required for the team.
The selection panel for the side consists of Nicole Livingstone (Chairperson), Sarah Black, Sam Virgo, Andrew Dillon, Laura Kane, Kelli Underwood, Megan Waters, Narelle Smith and Tim Harrington, with the final 21 to be announced on Tuesday, November 22 at the W Awards night.
