MELBOURNE has broken its all-time AFLW membership record with 3,361 loyal members getting on board for season seven.
The Demons topped last season’s tally of 2080, recorded just seven months ago, to register a 62-percent increase and mark the club’s strongest showing since the competition began in 2017.
It comes after a strong home-and-away outing, where Melbourne finished in second position on the ladder with nine victories, and ahead of Friday night’s NAB AFLW Finals Series kick-off.
Acknowledging the significant tally, AFLW senior coach Mick Stinear thanked all who have gotten behind the team this year.
“On behalf of the program, I would like to thank every single member, both new and existing, for the support this season,” he said.
“We have had a strong foundation of members since we began in 2017 and it’s fantastic to see that continuing to grow each year.
“Our players love nothing more than running out to a crowd of red and blue, and we can’t thank our loyal fans enough for getting behind the team.
“We hope to see as many members as possible down at Ikon Park on Friday night as we commence our finals campaign.”
Melbourne will go up against the Adelaide Crows in Friday night’s Qualifying Final, with tickets still available here.
