KEY forward Jacob van Rooyen has put pen to paper on a new deal, extending his contract with the Demons through to the end of 2025.
The 20-year-old, who was already locked in for 2023, signed on for a further two years this week, in a move set to excite his teammates and Dees fans alike.
It follows an impressive first year at the club, where he tallied 18 VFL matches, kicked 36 goals and played a crucial role in Casey’s premiership-winning season.
Melbourne List Manager Tim Lamb said it was an important signing for the club, as van Rooyen continues to grow.
“Jacob has put in a mountain of work since arriving at the club, which is a testament to what he’s been able to achieve,” he told Melbourne Media.
“To have Jacob in the red and blue for at least another three years is exciting, and we very much look forward to what he can add to our team at AFL level, when an opportunity presents itself.
“Jacob is an exceptional young talent and we are excited to watch him continue to grow over the coming seasons.”
Standing at 194cm, van Rooyen averaged 12 disposals for Casey this season, with his biggest outing coming in VFL Round 8 – he registered 22 touches and six goals.
Van Rooyen, originally from Perth, was Melbourne’s first selection in the 2021 National Draft, taken at pick No.19.
